Can Aerosmith Survive?
Commentary By Hobie
The question that Aerosmith fans are asking themselves is, "Can the band move forward and produce viable music without Steven Tyler?" In my opinion the anser is, "NO", Joe Perry and company will not survive as a band without Tyler on vocals. Remember the split that occured between Tyler and Perry between 1979 and 1984? Like Martin and Lewis and Abbott and Costello, neither fared as well as when they were together. This much can be expected if the "Toxic Twins" wish to live up to their nickname first given them in the mid-70s because of humongous amounts of drugs and alcohol ingested by both and their indifference to their chosen craft. Perhaps it's time for both to go their own way, once again, as did Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton having married and split 3 times. Much like the cecada's appearance every ten years, perhaps it's time for Tyler and Perry to go their separate ways once again to realize that they are both married to Aerosmtih and the fans are their family. After all, selling 150 million albums worldwide, including 66 1/2 million albums in the United States alone, holding the record for the most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group, popping 21 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, nine #1 Mainstream Rock hits, four Grammy Awards, ten MTV Video Music Awards and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 is nothing to throw away at the expense of ego on anyone's part. Whether Tyler or Perry can't get along, they should at least stay together for the children's sake. Plus, think of all the money that is yet to be made by both. "Poop or get off of the pot", is what my father always said and I say the same to both men who still owe Springfield, IL a decent show from their aborted attempt in July 1984 at the PCCC. If Tyler stays then we look forward to more of a show next time you guys are in town and if you abort that show, don't try to buy us off with your latest album! We'll keep the ticket stubs as a reminder not to attend the next show.
If Tyler goes, then I say dis-band the band and we'll live off of our memories. After all, memories are just "toys in the attic" collecting dust anyway. If he stays, then quit "Crying", get "back in the saddle again" and rock-n-roll.
MY BIO
I was born in a small Central Illinois town and moved around a lot as a kid. I guess that’s why the radio nomad lifestyle fit me so well. I was one of the lucky kids though, because I always knew what I wanted to do in life. I wanted to be on the Radio, in the TV industry and on Film. I’ve been blessed enough to have done all three.
I attended Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL where I studied Radio and Television Broadcasting. I retired from radio broadcasting, for good I thought, after a long career up and down the dial as an on-air personality and production director. My last radio job found me in the Major Markets on the East Coast of the U.S. It was then that I began another career with my own audio and video production company. This is what would propel my voice globally. I can be heard worldwide as a voiceover artist for television and radio commercials. You can also hear me pitching you products while shopping for groceries in over 75 Supermarkets in England or as one of the voice guys for Radio 538 in the Netherlands.
As an actor I’ve been seen on stage, in commercials, and on television shows such as, “It’s A Miracle,” and in the films, “Legally Blonde 2” and “Night Of The Grinder.” When you know you’re destined to do something, it’s always hard to shake it off, so after several years out of radio, I got the itch to do it again. Some people call me crazy because this can be such a brutal profession, but you have to love what you do in life and I love what I do here at WYMG.
Hey, life’s too short, so I also grow my own Habanero peppers and make/bottle and distribute my own Hot Sauce called, “Hobie’s Happy Habanero Hot Sauce”. I’ve also self-published two short stories, “Carl The Christmas Cow” and “Christmas In The Clearing” and I can be seen occasionally performing stand up comedy. I love music. I’ve been called the “Rain Man” of music because I can usually tell you something odd about any band you mention in the history of music. I play drums, guitar and trumpet and have played in rock bands since I was 15 years old. I last played with the “Marvin Gaye Band”on the East Coast.
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!
I’m also a volunteer fire fighter for my community. I like to work outside. (I love my chainsaw) and tinker with small engines, especially my go-cart and tractor. I’m a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. My professional baseball team is the Cardinals. I enjoy watching Aussie Rules Football and I like Indy Car and Formula One racing. My wife and I reside in the country with our two dogs and all of the critters of the countryside. Thanks for listening and as always, thanks for shopping at K-Mart.
